End of Year Senior Living Survey Results from 2014 ALFA and LeadingAge Expositions
In our booths at ALFA and LeadingAge this year, we surveyed attendees to help us identify trends and requirements for resident safety and security solutions. This information is critical for us to understand our senior living customers, develop our roadmap and future product design to meet their needs. The survey report contains data from 72 organizations, 83 individuals and 20 specialties and positions - many of them asked if we can share the results.
The 2014 survey findings indicate a continued increase in the variety of services offered at aging care facilities. Over 65% of participants have multiple facility types and levels of care throughout their communities. This is important to know, especially when developing a technology strategy to address the changing needs of residents as they transition from independent to assisted living or skilled nursing.
Over 80% of participants reported use of emergency call and over 60% use wander management systems. However, few of them have integrated these systems together, although majority find it valuable. This confirms our product direction and the major reason we released Arial 9, which provides nurse call functionality and portable pendants for emergency call as well as built-in wander management capabilities leveraging STANLEY Healthcare’s proven wander management technology.
As the aging services market becomes more technology-savvy, Wi-Fi has become more prevalent, with 75% of participants reporting the use of a Wi-Fi infrastructure at their communities. This is exciting especially since Wi-Fi is a fundamental enabler of the Internet of Everything and will help to make all connections seamless for safety, security and operational efficiency applications. Plus, add in real-time location systems and senior living communities can now have a full array of Wi-Fi based enterprise solutions.
